Qualifications

As an alternative to the Abitur, German pupils may study for the following school leaving qualifications: Either G.C.S.E. followed by A-Levels or Pre-I.B. followed by the International Baccalaureate (I.B.)

Both these routes provide qualifications recognised by the German authorities (Bundesland) and we will happily advise you of all current regulations.

G.C.S.E.s

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (G.C.S.E.) is comparable to the Mittlere Reife and examinations are taken in between 8 and 10 subjects after two years of study (10. Klasse). Your son/daughter could then comfortably return to a German school, or might choose to stay in the U.K. and complete his/her A-Levels after a further two years of study.

A-Levels

Advanced Levels are internationally recognised qualifications designed for admission to University in the U.K., Germany or worldwide. Each pupil is examined in 3 or 4 subjects (related or non-related). A-Levels are especially popular with pupils who have strengths in particular subjects. With the correct subject choices, A-Levels are recognized as a Fachgebundene Hochschulreife.
